Damenchor Membership

The following information is from the Beethoven Damenchor's constitution.

ARTICLE III

MEMBERSHIP

1-a.         Any lady desiring to become a member of the Beethoven Damenchor must be at least a high school student and be sponsored by 2 active members – one of which must be an active singer and submit a complete application signed by the 2 sponsors.  This application will then be approved by the officers and voted on by the membership by secret ballot.  At the time of membership application, the new member has the option of becoming an active singer, an active non-singer, or a passive member.  Any lady desiring to become a member is encouraged to meet the Damenchor membership at any previous function.  High school students may apply as guest singers.  They will pay no dues and attend no meetings.  At the age of 18, they will become eligible to become active singers and shall pay the five dollar initiation fee and yearly dues.

1-b.         In October of each year, the financial status of the Damenchor will be assessed by the Damenchor officers and the Finance Committee.  If an increase in dues is deemed necessary, then it shall be brought before the membership for a vote.  Dues shall be increased in increments of $5.00.  New members shall pay a $5.00 initiation fee in addition to yearly dues.  (As of January 1, 2004 dues assessment is $30.00)  All dues are due January 1 of each year and have to be paid in full by March 1, or that member will be dropped from the membership.  New members joining after August 1 will pay the $5.00 initiation fee plus one-half (1/2) of membership dues for the remainder of the year.

1-c.         Any former member in good standing who wishes to be reinstated shall pay the $5.00 initiation fee and current dues.

2.             Active Singer - A member desiring to become an active singer must  be auditioned by the director and attend seven (7) consecutive rehearsals (unless excused) BEFORE she can be presented as an active singer to the members.  An excused absence does not count as a rehearsal.  An active singer, who, without excuse, is absent from rehearsals for 3 months, will be declared an active non-singer.  All active singers must attend the last two rehearsals before “Saengerfests” or concerts and attend at least 50% of all rehearsals in the three (3) months preceding the events to be eligible to sing at events, or participation may be granted by the director.

3.             Active Non-Singer - A member who regularly participates in Damenchor functions other than concert performances.

4.             Passive Member - A member who supports the Damenchor and pays the annual dues and initiation fee.

5.             Shut-In Member - Are members who are confined to their home or nursing home.  They shall pay no dues.

6.             Honorary Member - Must be a member of good standing in the Beethoven Damenchor for at least 25 years who has given of her time and effort to further the purposes of the Damenchor.  These members shall have the same privileges as the Active and Passive
