October 2019 Events
October 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th - Oktoberfest!
It's been said that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
If that's the case, the Beethoven Männerchor is extremely proud of the proliferation of Oktoberfest celebrations in San Antonio, Bexar County and beyond.
The Männerchor has celebrated Oktoberfest every year since 1867, when the German-American singing society and social club was founded in San Antonio. Recently, however, other organizations and ethnic groups have jumped on the bandwagon with copycat Oktoberfests in parks, plazas and even El Mercado at Market Square.
As far as the folks at Beethoven are concerned, everyone has the right to party. But for anyone searching for an authentic Oktoberfest experience, there's no place like the real deal at the Beethoven Halle und Biergarten.
Bratwurst, Leberkäse and good German beer. Singing, dancing and oom-pah bands. All of this and more is available for guests in a family-friendly atmosphere on the first two weekends in October. The gates will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight on all four nights.
The fun begins on Fri., Oct. 4 with tuba band music and the traditional, ceremonial tapping of the first Oktoberfest keg. Our children's choir is scheduled to sing, the Deutsch Volkstanzverein will dance and our musical entertainment will feature our 50-piece concert band and the Beethoven Big Band. The lineup on Sat., Oct. 5 includes a Sing-A-Long of traditional beer hall songs sung by our Männerchor and Damenchor choirs and dancing by Fire on the Mountain cloggers.
The schedule for the following weekend (Oct. 11 and 12) is "eat, drink and repeat" with headliner performances by the San Antonio Jazz Orchestra and Cloverleaf.
Admission is $10 at the gate; $8 pre-sale. Children under 12 and active duty military admitted free. Cash (as always) and major credit cards (new this year) accepted for gate entry and food and beverage ticket purchases.
The Beethoven Männerchor is the oldest German singing society west of the Mississippi River. Located at 422 Pereida St., just south of downtown San Antonio in the historic King William district, Beethoven Halle und Garten is both a cultural icon and a popular stop for locals and tourists alike. Food, beverages and entertainment are on the menu during monthly First Fridays, Gartenfests, and the annual Fiesta and Oktoberfest celebrations. Beethoven's clubroom also is open to the public for beverage service from 4 p.m. to midnight, Tuesday through Saturday.
